Cooking Sessions

In The Kitchen

In our cooking sessions, we support service users to prepare and cook real food from scratch. These sessions are designed to build independence, confidence, and practical life skills.

Service users are encouraged to take part in all stages of the cooking process, including:

  • Choosing a recipe
  • Washing and preparing ingredients
  • Measuring and mixing
  • Cooking safely with support
  • Serving and enjoying the meal together

Cooking sessions help to:

  • Develop fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination
  • Learn about healthy eating and food hygiene
  • Practice following instructions and sequencing tasks
  • Encourage teamwork, patience, and sharing
  • Build pride and confidence in achieving a finished meal

Staff provide step-by-step guidance, ensuring safety while allowing service users to be as independent as possible. Everyone is praised for their contributions, whether small or large, and the sessions end with the enjoyment of sharing the food together.
